Taxpayers should be receiving their IP PIN letters this month. That number will be required to file your 2019 tax returns. The IRS IP PIN is a 6-digit number assigned to eligible taxpayers (opted-in or victim of identity theft) the your Social Security Number (SSN) from being used for fraudulent federal tax returns.
If you lost the CP01A Notice, you can obtain a PIN or retrieve your PIN (must verify identity). If you are unable to verify your identity online, call the IRS Identity Theft Line at 1-800-908-4490 to request a duplicate notice in the mail.
Note: If your address changed after January 1, 2020 you will have to file a paper tax return without an IP PIN.
